Cotswold Way Relay – WOW!

I have managed to fill the Cotswold Way Relay 3 teams in record time this year, I sent my request around 16:30 on Tuesday and had 30 volunteers within 16 hours and I also now have 5 reserves. It looks like we’re going to have a ladies team, a mixed team and a gents team (although it will have 1 lady in it).

If you would still like to volunteer (and there are a few regulars not in my 35) then that’s great as it will mean that we could either have 4 teams (which will increase our fee to around £8.50 each) or give us lots of options as injuries are likely.

Based on what everyone has told me, I have the 3 teams penciled in as follows: –

Leg 1 – Carl Zalek, Dave Bethune, Yuka Morrell

Leg 2 – Pierre Lacrouts, Dan Harman; Debra Kearsey

Leg 3 – Dave Mackie, Dave Aplin, Mo Maddock

Leg 4 – Alison Collins, Oscar Stringer, Stewart Unsworth

Leg 5 – Jon Morrell, Christine Bott, Lauren Edwards

Leg 6 – Lucy Bright, Craig Rumble, Danny Clenaghan

Leg 7 – Dave Camm, Diane Aldridge, Adrian Finch

Leg 8 – Carol Langley-Johnson, Jane Clarke, Laura Sheppard

Leg 9 – Max Luff, Richard Biggs, Jane Tunnicliffe

Leg 10 – Georgina Taylor, Chris Hunt, Simon Ratcliff

Reserves – Rachel Cannon, Lee Davis, Alan Kember, Steve Parham, Carly Corlett

Any problems then please let me know by emailing carlzalek@gmail.com or through Facebook.

Cotswold Way Relay 2017

I am looking for volunteers for the COTSWOLD WAY RELAY.

For those of you unaware, the Cotswold Way Relay is a 10 stage relay race along the length of the Cotswold Way from Chipping Campden (on the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire border) to Bath Abbey.

The website hasn’t been updated for 2017 but the date is always the last Saturday in June so it will be June 24th this year.

The legs range in length from 7-13 miles and they’re all hilly and cross country. We place no emphasis on ability and everyone is welcome to join in, even if you just want to walk it. It is self navigation but with 100 teams entering, the opportunities to get lost are minimal. The route is pretty well signposted; certainly much better than my first year; and many people will do a recce beforehand.

Speak to me or anyone who has run it before and they’ll all tell you what a great event this is.

We are hoping to enter 3 teams again this year and the committee have agreed to fund £250 so the costs will be between £4-£5 each if we get 3 teams or probably free if we get 2 teams.

I’d love to get a ladies team this year and the biggest challenge for that is the longer legs, especially further north, so if you’re one of our long distance ladies and don’t mind getting up at silly hours then please volunteer for leg 1, 2 or 4 especially.

As some people missed out last year, there will be some priorities for those but if you are interested then please email me at carlzalek@gmail.com or speak to me on club night or message me on Facebook and I’ll make a note of everything and try and squeeze you all in.

I plan to have the teams mostly sorted by the end of next month so let me know ASAP.
Thanks

Carl Zalek

Request for Blind Runner Guide for Lungbuster on 5th Feb

We’ve received a request (replicated below) to ask if anyone would like to be a guide for a blind runner. The race is a 10 mile cross country starting in Broad Hinton and you’d get free entry and a medal at the end.

If you can help out please contact Rob Davies on chairman@royalwoottonbassetthounds.co.uk

I’m a blind runner who races most weekends.

I’m writing to ask if you could post on facebook or twitter or email current entrants of lungbuster 2017 on Sunday 5 February to see if anyone would be willing to guide me

No experience needed

I would just hold a right arm

I would obviously be slow, due to the nature of the ground

I run road 10 miles in around 2 hours

I would also appreciate the guide collecting me from a friend’s in Park South and back.

I look forward to hearing from you either way

Louise Simpson

Be Seen, Be Safe

Following an email we have received from a Corsham resident where a runner in Corsham narrowly avoided being struck by a car in a poorly lit area, could we remind you that when out running at this time of year to wear some Hi Viz clothing, lights or anything that will make you visible to others.  Like your family and friends we at Corsham Running Club want you to Be Seen & Be Safe.
