Weekly Review – Week Ending 20th January

There was only one runner this weekend which was Susan Mackie at the Doynton Hard Half Marathon where she improved her time from last year by over 26 minutes.

While there was only one racer we still had a busy week.

First up we had the return of Bryan Clinton to give us a tough coaching session on Tuesday. Lots of hard work but lots of smiling faces at the end.

And then on Friday evening we had our AGM. Over 50 members attended for our annual reports (Chairman, Treasurer, Membership, Captain’s) and far more importantly our AWARDS. Well done to all of our winners.

We had a visit from Corsham swimmer Stephanie Millward who thanked us for our donation from the Corsham 10K to help her spend more time training for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and Stephanie also brought her Rio 2016 gold medal.

And after some food we had a talk and a Q&A from Damian Hall.

Weekly Review – Week Ending 13th January

It was a Bath Skyline double this weekend as we had two runners each at the night race and the day race.

First up on the Saturday night were Marie Vinolo-Young; running with her friends from JMS run crew; and Rachael Dark. They did the 10K course around the southern Bath woods at nighttime.

And of course, that would have made the route much more fun/treacherous for Angie and Dave Aplin who did the Sunday morning version.

Darren Thorley ran a bit further afield taking on the Stubbington 10K, near Portsmouth, and completing in just under 50 minutes.

And finally Dave Mackie joined his brother in the Pennines for the Marsden to Edale Trigger Race described as ‘Entrants will navigate their way from Marsden over Black Hill, Bleaklow and Kinder to Edale visiting three trigs points on route. The linear route is measured at 20 miles with 4500 feet climb.

New year, New Challenges.

2018 finished with Laura Di Pisa running the Rome 10K, an excellent way to spend New Years Eve.

Steve Hible and his son John also went abroad on New Years Eve, travelling to Wales for the Wye Wander, where John won his age category and Steve made good use of his new CRC jacket.

And now it’s 2019 and it’s a time for taking on a new challenges. Andrew Wood also travelled to Wales to do the Blade Runner Ultra. A 50k taking in some of the biggest mountain peaks in southern Wales such as Pen Y Fan and Fan Y Big.

Dave Townsend’s new challenge was to do his first race in his CRC vest, the Kelston 10K, which was in England.

It will be exciting to see what new challenges our members take on this year, whether it’s a longer distance, faster times, tougher courses or just running consistently.

Weekly Review – Week Ending 30th December

Unsurprisingly, there wasn’t a lot of activity this week around the club as many of us took a well earned break.

We did start the week with our annual Christmas Eve run around Castle Combe, this year joining forces with our friends from Chippenham Harriers, Chippenham Tri, Calne RC and even Hogweed Trotters in memory of Lucy Jillings.

With options of a fast 6, a gentler 6, a gentle 5, a 3 miler and a 2 mile walk for those with parenting responsibilities, everyone was catered for and there was a superb turnout.

Boxing Day saw the annual recovery run on the Slaughterford 9 route.

And in races, Daniel Parker and Chris Hunt did the 12 mile Plain Crazy event. It apparently had some big hills so this picture may be a before shot.

And finally, it only seems fitting to end the year with our chairman Richard, doing the Gingerbread Run. I’m sure we’d all like more details as he said it took 4.5 miles to catch the gingerbread man?

We’d like to wish all of our members a Happy New Year and a successful 2019 with all goals achieved.

Weekly Review – Week Ending 23rd December

The only racers this week were the Mackies (and Willow the dog) who did the FREE Clumber Park 10k in Nottinghamshire.

However we’ve been keeping active with the Chippenham Darkrun on Wednesday.

Thursday saw the annual Christmas lights run and caroling led by Jane Clarke. 3 miles of lights, singing and ending at a pub.

Then Friday was the Monkton Farleigh Full Moon run. A new route and a new pub.

If you’re not at Castle Combe today then Corsham Running Club would like to wish you a merry Christmas.

Weekly Review – Week Ending 16th December

The cold and rain don’t stop CRC as we had a busy weekend of club championship races and socialising.

We had our 3rd and final Parkrun club championship event at Chippenham on Saturday morning. James Lye led the Corsham contingent home with a PB and everyone finished in under 30 minutes.

Sunday morning was chilly but luckily a cooked breakfast was waiting on return to the Quarryman’s Arms after a 5-6 mile trail run enjoyed by many of our members.

Sunday morning also saw our final club championship event of 2018 and what a way to end it at the Westonbirt House Christmas 10K. There were PBs for Marie Vinolo-Young, Lucy Bright (breaking 50 minutes for the first time) and Lois Norcott.

Marie was also the 3rd lady overall, Chris Hunt came 3rd supervet and our ladies team (also including Caroline Cozier and Katharine Burrett) were the 3rd ladies team. Congratulations all.

Weekly Review – Week Ending 9th December

It won’t be long until Santa is here but first off he has to do a world tour.

Saturday, he was in Calne for the Santa Scamper where everyone was dressed like Santa including Daniel Parker and Annika Davidson.

And on Sunday, he’d obviously realised that it was difficult to run in the full kit so everyone at the Christmas Cracker, including Richard Biggs just sported the hat.

And on a more serious note Dave Mackie and Chris Hunt took the short journey to Bath University for the Tri-county Cross Country Championships. 10K of mud.

As well as running on Saturday, Daniel Parker helped Marshall at the 3K Xmas Fun Run in Westbury.

This seems like a perfect opportunity to remind our members to make sure their calendars are clear for the morning of Sunday 28th April. It’s the Corsham 10K and it only runs so successfully because of our members (and some other groups from Corsham) coming together to make it successful. I’m sure Oscar Stringer, the new race director will be looking for volunteers in the New Year.

Weekly Review – Week Ending 2nd December

The weather is definitely getting colder and some of our runners are starting to wear long sleeves and long trousers for racing.

However the weekend started with wearing our glad rags at the Christmas party.

Andrew Wood travelled to Shropshire to take on the Cardington Cracker fell race. 9 miles of up and down.

We had 6 runners heading to Crewkerne for 10 miles of the Full Monty Cute. As you can see, no long sleeves here.

And 8 of our runners made the short journey to Bromham for the 10K pudding run. 2 of them broke 40 minutes and another 2 broke their PBs, Fiona Moore was paced round by Richard and Lois Norcott broke an hour for the first time.

And of course all 8 got a Christmas pudding.
