Weekly Review – Week Ending 8th Septmber

It ain’t HALF been a big week.

We had 18 runners at our latest club championship event, the Chippenham Half Marathon and to date I’m aware of 8 of you attaining a PB. Chris Hunt, John Wilmott, Luke Davies, John Hible (under 90 minutes), Laura Midwinter, Katharine Burrett, Kathryn Roynon, Rachael Dark and Lois Norcott (under 2 hours). Well done everybody.

It was also a half marathon PB for Dave Aplin at the New Forest half, finishing under 1:40 for the first time.

It’s worth remembering that sometimes the best race you can have is not to race at all. So with that in mind, congratulations to Julian Thornhill for stopping when he felt trouble in his knee during the New Forest Half Marathon. We all wish you a speedy recovery

Jo Gill took the marathon option at New Forest finishing in 3:54. Jo loves a marathon and often seems to finish between 3:50 and 4:00. That’s some excellent consistency.

The shortest race of the week award goes to Dave Mackie with a quite frankly lazy 10.5 mile Grisedale Horseshoe Fell Race. Up and down Helvellyn in the Peak District. It also looks awful.

And in the longest race of the week, Damian Hall was at the 170 mile Ultra Tour Monta Rosa starting in the Swiss Alps. He only managed to do half of the race, but that was because it had to be called off for safety reasons. 2 foot of snow fell in a few hours.

However, in a bittersweet twist he was leading the race by around 24 minutes at the checkpoint so he took home the win. Well done Damian, they all count!

And finally, it was the last of our summer away runs this week. We concluded exactly as we have done for the last couple of years with a choice of 4.5 – 6 miles from the Quarryman’s Arms. And as usual, the sun was shining and a great time was had by all culminating in a stop at the pub at the end.

Our thanks to Dave Mackie, Natalie Inman, Stewart Unsworth and Chris Hutton for organising the away runs and to innumerable group leaders who’ve been willing to take a merry band of runners and take responsibility if they got lost.

While there are no more summer away runs left it does mean that our Full moon runs start again this month so grab your headtorch and join us for more adventures.

Your club needs you – Hazelbury Hurrah!

Hazelbury Hurrah! really needs your help on Friday 12th July.

Without volunteers the event, which is raising funds for the Club, Cotswold Volunteer Wardens and SSAFA (The Armed Forces Charity), is a non-starter and we still have roles to fill. So if you are free some or all of the time between 5pm and 9pm please and think you can help, please, please drop a line to hazelburyhurrah@corshamrunningclub.co.uk.

We are running the fun run from 6pm, the Junior race from 6:30 and the main event from 7:15.

You don’t have to help with all 3, if you’re racing the main event then please help with the first 2, if you’re watching your children in either of the first 2, then please help with the main race.

And don’t forget to ask. friends/family/neighbours or anyone else who you think may be able to help.

Weekly Review – Week Ending 21st April

It’s the calm before the storm.

We had 15 runners at the Good Friday 10 miler in Chippenham on a glorious day for running. Some smashing results led home by Tom Frost in 1:04:24. There were PBs for Lois Norcott (1:33:59), Katharine Burrett (1:35:44) and Lauren Edwards (1:18:16).

But most importantly, there were Easter Eggs for all.

Annika Davidson completed the Helmsley 10K in 50:47, another one of those races with a mug in the goody bag.

Of course, next Sunday sees the Corsham 10K and 2K fun run. Good luck to all of those running it. We’re looking forward to welcoming all the runners and an army of volunteers. It’s never too late to volunteer.

And details have been released of our new beginners running course, we’ve had many successful courses over the last couple of years and many of those members are still with us and still improving.

It’s a fun friendly course to take you from couch to 5K in a group environment and with much encouragement along the way. If you’re interested or know someone who may be then get in contact. Details on the poster.

The only racers this week were the Mackies (and Willow the dog) who did the FREE Clumber Park 10k in Nottinghamshire.

However we’ve been keeping active with the Chippenham Darkrun on Wednesday.

Thursday saw the annual Christmas lights run and caroling led by Jane Clarke. 3 miles of lights, singing and ending at a pub.

Then Friday was the Monkton Farleigh Full Moon run. A new route and a new pub.

If you’re not at Castle Combe today then Corsham Running Club would like to wish you a merry Christmas.

Training Schedule

Club Session Cancellation – 1st March 2018

Due to the forecast for further snow and gale force winds today the committee have made the decision to cancel tonights planned club sessions. There will therefore be no club lead sessions for Groups A, B, C or 3 Mile Group.

If you’d still like to run then you’re of course free to arrange your own group (at your own risk) outside of the club umbrella. The planned Full Moon Run at Cherhill has moved location to start from Springfield and will be a local off-road route run at Dave Mackies discretion and again is entirely at your own risk.
