South West Inter Counties XC Championship 8/1/2017

This was the senior and veteran ladies race of the south-west inter-counties championships held on Sunday 8th January at Exeter racecourse. The 5800 metre, 2-lap course was fairly flat and fast, with one long incline/lap. Although we were the last race of the day, conditions under foot weren’t that slippery so I got away without spikes. I was very proud to be representing my club and county in a team of ten. The field was strong, and we got off to a flying start. A glance at my watch showed 5.20 mins/mile. We all began to string our pretty quickly, and I concentrated on a steady pace leaving enough for a fast finish. I managed to secure a silver medal in my vf55+ age category which was pleasing. Racing at a more competitive level than I am used to and encountering some of the best runners in the region made me realise I have a lot more work to do!

Rough’n’Tumble 8/1/2017

I was the lone CRC runner (I think) in this fab off road roller coaster of a race down Pewsey way. Starting in the lovely Wiltshire village of Milton Lilbourne the 500 plus entrants soon got to grips with the areas muddier and hillier terrain. The middle “big dipper” section taking in the ascents and descents of Milton Hill Clump and Giants Grave proved particularly sporty & memorable. That, along with top marshalling and great cakes, make the Rough’n’Tumble an ace & highly recommended event that is a super way to kick off the racing year; put it on your list for 2018….
