One Mile Club runs in association with Corsham Running Club and is for children accompanied by a parent or guardian. The children have to be in Year 1 or above and the oldest are in Year 7 or 8 but there is no official upper limit.
The aim of the club is to make running an enjoyable occupation for children and adults. This is done through a wide variety of activities including games, speed work of various kinds, treasure hunts, relays (including a dressing up relay), Hunt the Flags and a Halloween ‘spooky’ run. It is a pastime which has the benefit of combating child obesity while parents and children have fun together.
There is no membership fee but the children and adults receive certificates for attendance (10 miles, 20 miles, 30 miles, 50 miles etc). The children receive T-shirts, medals and trophies etc too.
Membership is by application to Humphry Barnikel (01249 712015) and at certain times of the year there is often a waiting list.
The club meets in the wide part of the corridor at the Springfield Community Campus on Wednesdays in term time at 6pm for a 6.15pm start.
