Beginners Group

The 2024 Beginners Group is open!

We’re pleased to announce that our next beginners group will begin on Thursday 11th January 2024. Please email us at corshambeginners@gmail.com to book a place or to find out more information.

Beginners groups are run by volunteer members of the club who hold either a Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) or a Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) qualification from England Athletics. As a club we are very lucky to also have lots of club volunteers who help at these sessions. Most of the volunteers have themselves completed the Beginners Running Group, so are able to positively support people on the course. There are lots of reasons to start running, and we hope to achieve those aims, be it getting fitter, planning for a first race, losing weight, or just finding people to run with as a group.

Beginners running is designed to get anyone from having little or no running experience, to being able to run a 5k at the end of a 12 week course. It is also useful to those runners who may be coming back from injury, or time away from running. We have a structured timetable for the 12 week period. We aim to introduce runners to common terms and training methods that Corsham Running Club use in their sessions. Hopefully this enables the runners to keep running with the club at the end of their course. Sessions are varied and inclusive. We do ask that people looking to join a course are able to commit to the 10 weeks, and are also able to do some work on their own (or ideally with other beginners) between sessions.

At the end of week 12, we encourage all new runners to complete in a Parkrun event, which normally ties in with a club run as well, so is very well supported by members of Corsham Running Club. We realise that not all runners want to ‘race’ but a parkrun is a nice way to achieve a 5k distance with a time (if that’s what you desire!). It also helps that we normally have cake and coffee afterwards!
